IPL Auction Regrets Expensive Buys That Didn’t Pay Off.

The IPL auction process is an exciting event where the cricketers bid on the players to build a stronger team squad. Well, they consider several factors while selecting a player during the auction. They don’t go for a bare minimum amount but spend as much as they want and do everything to obtain a player. However, it is not always sure that these players always give their best, sometimes they might not. So, this is what we will explore here in today’s blog. A list of the most expensive players in the IPL auction who didn’t pay off. So, if you want to know more, read the blog till the end.

Understanding the Stakes

At the Indian Premier League, the cricketers or the players look at or consider three main factors.

Good Skills

Reasonable skills are the primary factors parties consider when looking for a good player to add to their team. Here, the team members look for the players to bid on who are all-rounders in everything and provide good performance during the gameplay.

Popular Players

Some of them look for the most popular sports person to attract fans and sponsors, which helps the team make money off the field. Thus, they try their best to pick popular and well-known players.

Future Plans

Some teams buy young players, hoping they will improve with time. Therefore, they make future investments by taking such risks during the gameplay.

However, certain things restrict the players from spending excess money on the following players. Here are specific reasons to look for.

Pressure on Players

Spending too much money on the players can put them under pressure, where they have to give their best efforts during the gameplay, which could be stressful for them.

Uncomfortable

If you have purchased an international player, it will be difficult for you to perform well all the time; since the playing conditions here differ, it could put them under stress. They may not adapt to the playing spot as it might vary for the players from place to place.

Injuries

It would be a loss if a player gets injured or can’t play on the team perfectly. Thus, it becomes a challenge if a purchased player gets injured or even becomes prone to injuries.

Team Fit

Sometimes, the player does not work well with the rest of the team. They are restless and unable to cooperate with other team members during gameplay, which makes the game a bit difficult. Some players might not be a good team fit.

Expensive Players Who Didn’t Play Well

Here is the list of the expensive players who didn’t pay off their prices for their time.

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh is the first in the list of the players who didn’t do well for their bidden price. Kings XI Punjab bought him. He was sold in the IPL auction for 6 crores, but no one expected that all the money invested in him would go in vain. His miserable performance was a drawback for the team, and he did not give anything to the team, for the investment made for him. During that time, he also claimed two hat tricks, which he applied in the game, but the players did not want that in his performance. But his lucky win was when the Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased him in 2016, where he scored 38 balls just within 23 balls.

Glen Maxwell

Glen Maxwell is a tremendous player, and he has managed to make 552 runs in 16 games over a strike rate of 187.75. But luck wasn’t with him always. After this season, in the next season, his performance came crashing down, as he was not even able to touch 50 in 11 games and was able to produce only 145 runs for KXIP.

At the end of the 2017 IPL, Maxwell hit only two more IPL fifties, forcing KXIP to let go of this Australia all-rounder. After this, the Delhi Capitals bought him for 9 crores, but he could not repay it even for that amount. With his average batting, he has done average drooping for just 14 in the 2018 season. However, since then, he hasn’t played in the tournament, but KXIP’s interest in him was again provoked when they bought him at Rs 10.75 crores at the last auction.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes is another player on our list who didn’t pay off for the amount he was brought. However, he was a World Cup hero after being picked by the now-defunct franchise Rising Pune Supergiant at a fee of Rs 14.50 crores in 2017. Again, in 2018, the Rajasthan Royals shelled out Rs 12.50 crores but failed to lift the price tag. While he has still failed to hit a fifty in his last 22 IPL matches, 14 wickets in those games do not reflect his high bidding amount.

Pat Cummins

Cummins’s luck didn’t take him long. He has played only one match in his debut season, in 2014, for KKR after being bought for Rs.1 crore, and 3 matches in 2015. However, in the year 2017, he was purchased by the Delhi Daredevils as they splashed Rs 4.5 crores for his fastest bowling, yet he picked 15 wickets; the franchise released him so soon afterwards, which made him the last time when Cummins featured in the tournament.

This is the list of the players who didn’t give their best during the IPL despite the considerable investment made in them. Through this blog, we can learn the different dynamics of the IPL auction and how making a proper decision has a major role in securing higher scores in the IPL game!
